T-SHIRT FABRIC WEIGHTS • 145gsm cotton - light weight, ideal as hand-outs or for short term use. • 160-180gsm cotton - heavier weight, basic cost effective t-shirts for workwear or long term use. • 170gsm combed cotton - a much better quality cotton. Superior range, ideal for everyday use. • 200gsm cotton - Superior garments, include double stitching and heavy weight cotton fabric. WHAT MAKES A QUALITY T-SHIRT? Although cotton comes in different weights, this is not the only factor determining the quality. As a rule the higher the weight, the thicker the fabric is but this along does not determine the quality. The weight of the t-shirt is measured in grams per square meter of the material before made up. Most t-shirts are produced with 100% carded cotton and recently a newer combed cotton has drifted into the market. Combed cotton is softer and lasts longer dues to the process involved in the making of the fabric, Although they do cost more. As well as weight & cotton, there is also the stitching, dying and make up of the t-shirt. Most t-shirts are mass produced and a basic make-up is used. Some shirts do come with additional double stitching around the shoulders and necklines for added strenght. The majority of the dyes used in the shirts will fade with time depending on how often the t-shirt is worn. Some colours are more prone to fade than others so we suggest to wash all garments in a cold or cool wash, without bleach or heavy stain removers to help preserve the colour and shape. | |||||||
